February saw three carving projects, among many other things, of the style I've gravitated toward since last Fall. Whereas at one time it was standard for me to begin with a clay model and make a temporary mold and cast a new plaster model which I could then carve, I've lately been carving directly into a slab of plaster. This first photo shows an early step, where the detail has been drawn onto the plaster and the area around the figure is removed.
Here's an intermediate phase whereby I'm breaking in an 18 piece dental tool kit, which works very well!
Completed model ready for molding.
